About Us
Serhiy and Liana Zabutnyy have dedicated their lives to Ukrainian dance — first as professional dance artists in Ukraine, and now as the artistic directors of Zabutnyy Dance Company in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Before making Canada their home, Serhiy, Liana, and their son Maksym lived in Ternopil, Ukraine. In 1989, Serhiy and Liana joined "Nadzbruchanka," a celebrated Ukrainian folk dance ensemble, where they performed professionally for 14 years. That time took them across Europe — to Poland, France, and Germany — and even to Canada, sharing the richness of Ukrainian culture through dance. In the late 1990s, Serhiy took on the role of artistic director at Nadzbruchanka, choreographing "Dubotanets" and "Bukovynian" — dances still performed by the ensemble today.
After immigrating to Canada, Serhiy and Liana brought that same dedication to Saskatchewan's Ukrainian community. In 2009, they opened Zabutnyy Dance Company — a school and ensemble built on the belief that Ukrainian dance is worth passing on, in all its depth and beauty.
