2011 School Program

The school program was a huge success.  Thanks to St. Angela's, St. Bernadette, Dr. A. Perry & Balfour Collegiate, we we able to share our culture with 185 elementary students in the morning session and 40 high school students in the afternoon.  Based on the feedback we had from the teachers, we will offer this program again.

For the past 5 years, Serhiy & Liana have done school tours, where they took their dance troupes out to schools throughout Regina.

This program seemed to be a natural expansion from the school tours.  In this program, we link the regional dances of Ukraine to those who migrated from Ukraine to help settle the West.  The presentation is a combination of a slide show mixed with live dances.  The students receive a little bit of background on Ukraine and why it was targeted by the Canadian Government.  They  see many images early travel, settlements, and farms.  Then we take a moment to celebrate one of the regions where these people migrated from through dance.  While we don’t speak in detail to the differences in the costumes and the music and the steps, hopefully that is something they will notice.

We hope something that the children who attend will grow and learn from.

For you the teachers, we hope it will be another tool that you will be able to leverage in your Social Studies and Dance curriculums.  Below are a few of the photos that were featured in the the video presentation.
